Topic: Ten HR Challenges that Should Keep you up at Night
This interactive and provocative presentation looks at ten challenges that HR and diversity professionals must consider, and keep top of mind, as they prepare their organizations to compete in a global economy. Among the challenges discussed are maintaining a strategic focus, aligning with business objectives, building a pipeline with leadership capabilities, developing HR competencies, and dealing with rising health care costs. The audience will leave with 2-3 key takeaways on preparing and implementing HR strategies to address each challenge.

Bio-Sketch
Javier is currently the HR Manager for the City of Bakersfield in Bakersfield, CA. Javier leads the HR Team in strategically positioning the City of Bakersfield as Employer of 1st Choice.
Previous to this role in Public Service, Javier has served as Vice President, Rewards & Systems for PRC a call-center company in Plantation, FL. In this role, Javier managed the Employee Relations and Performance Management including the development and implementation of organization-wide initiatives and processes to enhance organizational capability. Javier managed the organization’s rewards including benefits and compensation programs for the corporation’s 10,000 employees, located across the United States, the Philippines and India.
Prior to this Javier was the Director, International Programs and the Regional Director, Pacific West for the Society for Human Resource Management in Alexandria, VA. With SHRM, Javier developed and implemented the SHRM international strategy and provided leadership and supervision of the International Programs Team. As the Regional Director, Pacific West, Javier facilitated strategic planning and provided advice and counsel to the Society’s volunteer leaders and ensured the execution of regional strategies which were aligned with the organizational vision, mission, values and goals. Javier provided leadership and supervision to the regional team members and led the Pacific West Regional Team in the relationship management of SHRM Chapters and State Councils.
Prior to SHRM, Javier was with Chevron Corporation before electing early retirement. With Chevron, Javier served in many HR Roles, including Corporate Diversity Consultant where he developed and implemented strategic diversity products and services for Chevron world-wide as member of Office of Global Diversity. Javier also counseled and supported Employee Networks, Diversity Councils and Management Teams to achieve diversity strategies. Others roles with Chevron included Organizational Capability Coordinator, Diversity Coordinator, Human Resources Counselor/Business Partner, Human Resources Team Leader, Human Resource Representative, as well as other operation & production roles.
Javier holds a BS in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of La Verne in La Verne, CA. and is certified as Senior Professional in Human Resource – California (SPHR-CA) and as a Global Professional in Human Resource (GPHR).
