Topic: Mental Health Issues in the Workplace: Implications for Businesess

Workplaces need to be made aware of the impact that mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, suicide, and other stressful issues has on their businesses – both emotionally and financially.  Untreated mental illness costs American companies over 170 billion dollars every year in lost workdays, reduced productivity, and direct healthcare costs. Mental health issues may already be marginally addressed through auxiliary services such as occupational health and employee assistance programs as well as human resources departments.  Prevention and early-intervention programs are easily integrated into existing health and wellness programs within any organization.

Objectives:

  • Provide information regarding the problem of mental health issues in MA including financial and emotional costs.

  • Discuss the impact of depression/mental illness on working adults, their families and the workplace.

Discuss possible prevention strategies for the work place.
